The Readings

First Reading

Genesis 1:26–28

Read by [reader's name]

And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth. And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them. And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth.

The word of the Lord. — Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 32:12, 18, 20–22

Response: The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

Second Reading

1 John 4:7–12

Read by [reader's name]

Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us.

The word of the Lord. — Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation

1 John 4:7

Alleluia, alleluia! Everyone who loves is born of God and knows him. Alleluia!

Gospel

Matthew 19:3–6

Proclaimed by Fr. Sikeli Tuilevuka

And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, and saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, made them male and female? And he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.

The Gospel of the Lord. — Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
